Delivers free public WiFi.
Implementing an efficient, reliable, and fast public WiFi network for urban Christchurch is a fundamental step in establishing the city as an innovative and progressive smart city.
Not only does it provide free and open access to digital Christchurch for our citizens and visitors, but it also enables a faster deployment of “smart” technologies such as WiFi-enabled sensors and pedestrian flow analysis.
Free public WiFi trial in Cathedral Square was implemented in May 2018. The trial is a result of a partnership between Christchurch City Council, Spark, and Enable. As part of the trial, Spark is also offering free public WiFi at its central city phone boxes.
